Dr. Raïssa Lompo
In October, Dr. Raïssa Lompo will be leaving CSL and joining her husband Alfonse in Niamey. We deeply appreciate the medical ministry she has had at CSL serving on the medical team. We will miss her but look forward to seeing what opportunities the Lord will have for her in Niamey.

Ask the Lord to provide for physicians to serve the patients coming to CSL.

Pray for the ongoing CSL project evaluation. A thorough assessment of the complex financial picture of CSL is underway.  Pray that valuable information will come to light which can be used to guide the future direction for CSL.

Prayer for students Estelle and Blandine who will be joining the ministry at Danja as part of their studies. Pray for opportunities for them to use their gifts and talents to serve the Lord in ministering to the needs of the people of Niger. Pray for their adjustment to life in Niger in a missionary community.

Posted July 26, 2017: Imagine a pounding headache, shaking chills, a high fever, extreme fatigue, nausea and vomiting… a really bad case of the flu? No, that would be malaria. People in Niger like many African countries suffer from malaria especially during the farming season when the rains have begun. This disease is incapacitating  to most and deadly to some.
Prayer Points:
               1) Rainy season is upon us. People are hard at work in their fields and mosquitoes are reproducing rapidly. Pray for the CSL doctors and nurses as many people come for treatment for malaria due to mosquitoes.
                2) Annual medication order has been submitted, pray that the order will be filled and shipped properly so that these needed medications will arrive soon.
                3) Many of the seeking treatment at CSL do not have the funds to pay for their care.  Pray for compassionate individuals to join us in meeting the needs of these very poor people needing health care through gifts to the CSL Benevolence Fund. Lives are introduced to the love of Jesus through these gifts that restore health.
                4) ) Physical Therapist, Michelle Pieke  has completed her French studies and will be returning to serve as a physical therapist at both CSL and DFC in late August. Pray for her final preparations before leaving Canada and for a smooth re-adjustment back to life in Niger.

Previous posts:

Pray for divine appointments at the Global Health Workers Conference in Louisville, KY as our director, Steve Brown shares the need CSL has for missionaries to join our ministry at Danja.

Praise for the facelift of the laboratory facilities at CSL thanks to a generous gift from Save the Children. The new tile and coats of paint are transformational.

Praise the Lord for our new medical doctor

Dr. Abdoulaye Boubou Aw who joined the CSL medical team in September. God used Danja Hospital in Dr. Aw's life 10 years ago when he received his original inspiration to pursue studies in medicine after a visit to the hospital.  Upon returning from home assignment in New Zealand, Dr Mark Griffiths was able to provide an orientation for Dr. Aw and to relieve Dr. Lompo for her annual vacation.

Pray for internet woes. After a few weeks of decent internet service our provider in the UK decided to change the satellite we were using for service. Despite valiant efforts by the Danja director, visiting missionary experts and the staff in the UK, our satellite internet service has NOT been restored. Effectiveness and efficiency are greatly impacted when we do not have internet capability.

Praise! Our pharmacy order has arrived! On the evening of August 24, the semi with its 40 foot container pulled in as far as it could, and pick-ups and Land Cruisers ferried supplies to store rooms. An enthusiastic crew of medical personnel, office staff, maintenance people, pastors and missionaries worked together to unload the cardboard boxes.

Satellite internet system. Recently, we got the satellite internet system working for the first time in over a month! We had replaced the cable earlier, the thing that we had been told by two technicians was the real problem. When that had no effect, another technician had the idea that the problem was moisture in one of the parts of the system, a piece shaped like a sealed trumpet bell with a tube attached.[See photo] We were able to use the kitchen dehydrator to dry out this trumpet-shaped piece. When we re-attached it, the system worked like a charm, and at high speed. However, when it rained again mid-week, moisture got into the same piece and it no longer worked. We are on track to a solution, though.

** Please keep praying for us to solve our internet problem.
Our annual pharmaceutical order for both medical centers has been held in Niamey for five months while the government of Niger reviews the tax status of all of the non-profits in Niger, but it looks like it is about to come through. We have received all clearances from customs and negotiated a fee for the five months that the government stored our pharmaceuticals while we waited for the customs clearance. Some final arrangements need to be made and the shipment will be rolling down the road to Danja. Hallelujah!

** Pray for us finally to be able to receive this pharmaceutical order soon!

CBC blood analysis machine.
This is a machine that provides Complete Blood Count analysis for the doctors and nurses to diagnose and treat patients. We had this machine transported out to Danja in April and installed it in late May. When we did, it did not work at all. This is an expensive machine, so we were quite vexed! Recently, we arranged to send one of laboratory technicians to Niamey and we also flew the machine there on the SIMAIR plane. The technician and machine went to a company that services this brand and type of machine, to see if they could get it working. We praise God that the two of them were indeed able to get it working. It was giving good stable results after the repair. We are now just looking for a time when it can be brought out by plane again, and reinstalled at Danja.

** Praise for this repair in Niamey, but pray also for the machine to work AT DANJA so that we can give better care to our patients by knowing the state of their blood counts.

The well is working, but the memory of the whole town of Danja being without water for a week makes that one worth hanging on to thanks for. I have not been able to buy a water level meter yet.

** Praise for the working well, but keep praying for us to be able to buy a good water meter and to buy a backup well pump some time soon.

Generator. My announcement that the generator controller was repaired was premature. The piece that I was able to swap in did seem to improve the situation a bit, but it still does not automatically shut off the generator when Nigelec utility power comes back on. I think that the damage from the lightning strike went deeper than just this one piece that we were able to replace.

** Pray for us to be able to make a final repair to the controls for the generator

Collapsing toilet block. [A building had been changed from a kitchen to a 4-stall shower block a couple years ago. It has begun cracking, and the cracks are aggravated by each heavy rain and by the fact that the cracking has severed a water line.] We are still watching this one, especially after each heavy rain. The building was built on the cheap, but with high charges by the builder, and will need to be torn down if it does not collapse.

** Pray for funds to rebuild the toilet block. This may be a late-2016 project. Too bad it was not built well in the first place, but as the Bible says, all of our works will be exposed for what they are, whether faithful or not.

** Pray for us to be able to bring another qualified Christian doctor to serve at CSL Danja.

We are being blessed and are thankful.
