Our Facilities

The inside courtyard between the buildings of the CSL center. The men's

ward is to the left with Physical Therapy at the back.

The dispensary waiting area for patients wanting to see the clinic nurses or doctor. Clinic hours are from 8 until 4 Monday through Friday although some patients arrive after hours and on the weekends to see the nurse on duty. There is a video screen for viewing the Jesus film while people wait.

The dispensary nurses’ consultation room/office. The CSL clinic nurses function much as a nurse practitioner in the West, examining patients, diagnosing conditions, doing treatments, prescribing medications and making referrals. For more complicated cases the nurses consult with the physician.

Women’s ward for female patients with skin conditions and wounds. Some patients are victims of burns, others have infections due to wounds that have been treated with “traditional medicines”, wounds due to leprosy, bed sores due to immobility and skin breakdown due to diabetes. Patients are accompanied by a family member who helps provide care for them.

The larger Men’s ward for male patients with skin conditions and wounds. For cultural reasons more men receive inpatient care than women so the men’s ward providing care for burns, infected wounds, leprosy and other skin diseases is larger than our women’s ward.

The ophthalmology nurse’ office. The ophthalmology nurse is specialized in handling eye diseases, injuries and conditions. He is trained and equipped to perform eye examinations and write prescriptions for corrective lenses. Over 200 patients per month are examined in the eye clinic.

The physical therapy department assesses patients and provides exercises and treatments to strengthen and restore function.

Dressing rooms where dressings are changed and wounds are cleaned, debrided and redressed by nursing and medical staff.

Maternal Child Center offers immunizations and growth monitoring for babies. Malnourished children receive “plumpy nut”, a ready-to-eat food supplement, and nutrition education for their mothers. Women also receive family planning services at the maternal and child health center.

Nurse’s consultation room for patients suffering from leprosy and tuberculosis. One CSL nurse has received specialized training in leprosy diagnosis and treatment. Another CSL nurse specializes in managing patients suffering from tuberculosis.

The “huts” provide simple, inexpensive accommodation for patients needing daily dressing changes who do not live locally. Patients pay $2 per week to stay in the huts while to stay in a bed on the ward costs $10 per week.
